You're Not Stuck — You're Afraid of What's Next

One of the biggest lies fear tells us is:
"You're stuck."
But what if you're not?
What if you're simply standing at the edge of change...
And you're afraid of what comes next?
That's exactly what we discovered while reading through listener emails for this episode.
Different people.
Different ages.
Different situations.
But underneath every story was the same emotional tension:
Fear of changing.
Fear of choosing wrong.
Fear of disappointing people.
Fear of ruining a life that looks fine on paper.
Fear of becoming someone different than everyone expects you to be.
The woman who outgrew her life
One of the emails came from a listener named Morgan.
She described something many people secretly feel.
From the outside, her life looked good.
A stable job.
A home.
A family.
Financial security.
Nothing was technically wrong.
But internally...
She felt disconnected from herself.
Like she had become so busy being responsible for everyone else that she stopped asking whether she actually liked her life anymore.
The guilt of wanting more
This is where so many people get trapped.
Because the moment they start questioning their life...
Guilt shows up.
They think:
- I should be grateful.
- Other people have it worse.
- Nothing is actually wrong.
- Why am I complaining?
But wanting more fulfillment doesn't make you ungrateful.
Wanting purpose doesn't make you selfish.
Wanting to feel alive doesn't mean you're abandoning your responsibilities.
It means you're human.
You don't have to blow up your life
One of the biggest misconceptions people have is that change requires a dramatic decision.
Quit the job.
Move across the country.
End the relationship.
Start over completely.
Most of the time, it doesn't.
Sometimes growth starts with:
- Taking a class
- Joining a group
- Exploring a hobby
- Trying something new
- Having a conversation
You don't have to destroy your current life to discover what comes next.
The fear of choosing wrong
Another listener shared something equally common.
He wasn't sure whether to:
- Start a business
- Move somewhere new
- Go back to school
And because he couldn't decide...
He did nothing.
Research.
Planning.
Overthinking.
Consuming content.
More research.
More planning.
No action.
This is one of the most common forms of fear.
Not fear of failure.
Fear of choosing wrong.
The perfection trap
Many people believe:
If I can just find the perfect decision...
Then I'll finally move forward.
But there is no perfect decision.
There is only:
- Information
- Experience
- Learning
- Adjustment
Most successful people didn't know their path was correct when they started.
They discovered it by walking it.
Movement creates clarity
One of the biggest lessons we've learned is this:
Clarity rarely comes before action.
It usually comes after it.
You take the class.
You start the business.
You move.
You try the thing.
And then you discover:
- I love this.
- I hate this.
- This isn't for me.
- This is exactly what I was looking for.
The point isn't perfection.
The point is movement.
Outgrowing people is uncomfortable
The third listener asked something many people are afraid to admit.
She felt like she was changing.
Growing.
Becoming more intentional.
Setting boundaries.
Taking better care of herself.
And suddenly...
Some of the people around her seemed uncomfortable.
Why?
Because growth changes relationships.
People often prefer the old version of you
The version that:
- People-pleased
- Stayed quiet
- Didn't challenge anything
- Made everyone comfortable
When you start changing...
Some people celebrate it.
Others resist it.
Not because you're doing something wrong.
Because your growth forces them to confront their own comfort zone.
Boundaries reveal relationships
One of the fastest ways to discover the health of a relationship is to set a boundary.
Healthy relationships adapt.
Unhealthy relationships often push back.
That doesn't mean the other person is bad.
It simply means change is happening.
And change creates friction.
The Fear Trap Framework
All three listener stories pointed back to a framework we've discussed before:
The Fear Trap Framework.
Because underneath each situation...
Fear was present.
Step 1: Name the Fear
Most people never stop to identify what they're actually afraid of.
Is it:
- Failure?
- Rejection?
- Judgment?
- Wasting time?
- Embarrassment?
- Financial instability?
Fear becomes easier to manage when it's clearly defined.
Step 2: Examine the Story
Ask yourself:
Is this reality?
Or catastrophic thinking?
Many fears are simply stories your mind is creating about the future.
Not facts.
Step 3: Prepare for the Worst
If the worst happened...
How would you recover?
Could you:
- Pivot?
- Learn?
- Rebuild?
- Try again?
Most people are stronger than they think.
Step 4: Count the Cost
What is staying the same costing you?
Many people focus on the risk of change.
Few people consider the cost of remaining stuck.
Years pass.
Dreams fade.
Confidence shrinks.
Regret grows.
That's a cost too.
Step 5: Move Anyway
This is where everything changes.
Because confidence doesn't arrive first.
Action does.
You don't wait until you're ready.
You move.
And readiness often follows.
The real question
Most people ask:
"How do I stop feeling fear?"
But that's the wrong question.
A better question is:
"How long am I willing to let fear make my decisions?"
Because fear will always have something to say.
The goal isn't to eliminate it.
The goal is to stop obeying it.
This is your reminder
If you've been feeling stuck...
Maybe you're not actually stuck.
Maybe you're standing at the edge of growth.
Maybe you're standing at the edge of a new version of yourself.
Maybe you're standing at the edge of a life that feels more aligned.
And maybe the thing holding you back isn't uncertainty.
Maybe it's fear.
The good news?
Fear doesn't have to disappear before you move.
You just have to stop letting it decide your future.
